| Canon 40D Review
The test lab over at our review partner Digital Trends published a review of the Canon 40D Review SLR Camera. The Canon EOS 40D scored an Editor's Choice Award. Quote from the review: "Late last year Canon released the EOS 40D, a 10-megapixel D-SLR targeted to serious photographers since it costs north of $1,000 USD for the body alone. Add a few lenses and accessories, the next thing you know youve hit $2K. This camera is targeted for anyone looking at the older 10-megapixel Nikon D80 or the newer 12.2MP Sony alpha DSLR-A700, a camera I liked a great deal. In other words, its for those more than willing to go beyond Auto and make the most of a sophisticated imaging capture device (a.k.a camera)." Read the full Canon 40D Review. .
Hip-Hop Rumors: The KKK Planning To Kill Obama? BET's R...
Hip-Hop artist David Banner sent 80 children from the Stewpot Neighborhood Children's program in Jackson, Mississippi on an all expense paid trip to Six Flags over Georgia today (July 20). The rapper provided a bus, food, t-shirts and admission to the park on the annual excursion, which he has been sponsoring since 2005, with the intention of exposing the youth to different environments. “The children that we serve at Stewpot would not normally be able to go on an 'out of town' trip," said Stewpot Community Services Counselor, Sherry Adams. "Most of the kids in the community have not been out of Mississippi. Because of Banner's love for our community, he makes it possible for our kids to travel outside of Mississippi, on a fun and exciting summer trip every year.
Boys and Girls Club of Greater Boston surpasses fundraising goal
The Boys and Girls Club of Boston raised $101.5 million, the board announced Thursday at the nonprofit's annual dinner. The amount exceeds the group's capital campaign goal of $100 million to be raised by June 30, 2008 The campaign will still continue until June 30, officials said. The dinner itself raised more than $1 million toward the Boys and Girl's Club of Greater Boston, which serves 14,000 inner city children and teens through its nearly 10 locations. Children who attend the clubs -- from teens to a college student from Dorchester -- gave personal testaments to how the clubs have impacted their lives. In addition, nearly $4 million has been raised toward The Whitlock Fund for Inspirational Leadership and Excellence. The fund, established by some of the lead donors, is named after Linda Whitlock, the current CEO and president, who, after 10 years of service, is leaving her post this summer.
Quarterback Carpenter steps in when Bobcats need him
X's and O's are X's and O's," he said. "A post is a post, a corner is a corner, a hitch is a hitch. Being fifth-year seniors and being around football a long time, both Jack and I were able to grasp the concepts of this offense."Carpenter said he believes the offense is ready to have a breakout game."We're really close," he said. "Offense is a tough thing. You need all 11 guys doing the right things. You can see it in games: When we get 11 men doing what they're supposed to, boom, we've got a big play."What is not certain is whether Carpenter will be the guy helping to deliver that big play. Rolovich, a right-hander, has no problem throwing, but all it has taken in recent games is one hard hit to aggravate his left shoulder. Ash said MSU coaches deciding whether another weekend on the sidelines might be the best medicine for that injury.Rolovich's injury and Carpenter's solid performance also has reopened the competition at quarterback."My philosophy on injuries is this - and I've told this to the team - a player doesn't lose his job because of an injury, but he doesn't automatically get it back after he's injured," Ash said.

Sheriff might seek sales tax hike Growth spurs need for officers ...
Faced with policing an ever-expanding metropolis, Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie is eyeing changes on two fronts to tackle growth both inside county borders and the county jail. The sheriff said Tuesday there is a "strong possibility" he will head to Carson City next year and ask the Legislature to approve an additional quarter-cent sales tax to hire more police officers. The message has changed from a year ago, when the sheriff said the additional tax might not be needed so soon. But sales tax revenue has fallen with the sluggish economy and would not support enough new officers to keep up with growth, he said. Gillespie credited the more than 250 officers hired under the first phase of the More Cops initiative, which raised the sales tax by a quarter cent, with helping to cut the overall crime rate last year, including drops in homicides, robberies, rapes and traffic deaths.
