And the lure of such development is understandable from the potential of enormous wind energy production. However technical viability and economic practicality lay somewhere in the future. The question is how far in the future? And what must be done to get there? And must we wait? Future deepwater windfarms in over 60 feet of water or so will require much more expensive multi-leg structures or floating platforms for depths up to several hundred feet. This technology is being explored by energy companies with experience in offshore oil and gas platforms. Currently such construction is possible but its economic viability and operational performance is far from reality. For example, the first deepwater demonstration project now in the permitting stage is undertaken by Talisman Energy, an oil and gas producer in the North Sea.
Romero revitalizes ‘Dead’ with youth-savvy intellect
The film-industry press tends increasingly to hail Pittsburghs George A. Romero as the godfather of gore, in a smirking nod to his new picture, Diary of the Dead, and to the persistent influence of Romeros breakthrough film of 1968, Night of the Living Dead. The tacit, too-easy assumption here is that Romeros films rely more upon visceral shock value than upon narrative ferocity or scathing social criticism qualities that constitute his larger impact as a filmmaking artist. The medium is horror, of course a popular genre that had embraced gratuitous gore as a ticket-selling commodity several years before Romero had seasoned Night of the Living Dead with such incidental excesses. The message, however, is Romeros continuing usage of the genre as a vehicle for bigger and more troubling ideas about the fragile state of civilization.
Mr. Broad Builds His Dream Museum
His latest project is the Broad Contemporary Art Museum, a new wing at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) that's billed as one of the largest spaces in the country devoted exclusively to contemporary art. "BCAM" debuted on Feb. 9 with a swanky on-site dinner party attended by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise and wife Katie Holmes, and a bit of headline-generating controversy worthy of a Hollywood premiere. The building opens to the public on Feb. 16. Broad became a billionaire several times over by catering to the needs of post-World War II families. His first company, KB Home (KBH), is still among the nation's largest homebuilders. He also built Sun America, now a part of American International Group (AIG), into the nation's largest seller of annuities.
Christmas Shopping Picks Up After Slump
Following a slow start to December, there had been concerns among retailers that hard-up shoppers were planning a frugal Christmas. But on the last weekend before the big day, it was clear people were finally taking the spending plunge and responding to early sales events and heavy discounts. Retailers described it as a critical trading weekend that could make or break their Christmas profits. The decision of many leading chains to offer big discounts to tempt customers appeared to be paying off. A spokesman for the British Retail Consortium said: "We are expecting by close on Christmas Eve to see a modest growth, similar to last year, of about 2.5%. "I think retailers will feel in the current climate that they have done well if they match year on year growth." In London, a spokesman for the New West End company which represents retailers on Oxford Street, Regent Street and Bond Street, said Saturday's sales had exceeded retailers' expectations.

Magazine writes that the actress has decisively decided to write a book, and financial problems could also be one of her motivations. Allegedly Lindsay, who spent most of her money at rehabilitation, had to borrow 10,000 dollars from her friend Steve-O. Lohans spokesperson denied the rumours, but her close friends say that the actress has started to worry. She regrets all the cash she threw around the last couple years. She needs everything to fall into place and get her back on track, and fast said a friend of the problematic actress. .
