Nikon announces its latest D-SLR camera called the D60

Nikon is one of the largest and most successful makers of digital cameras on the market and has made a full line of D-SLR and point-and-shoot digital cameras for years.

Today Nikon announced the newest member if its D-SLR line called the Nikon D60. The camera will sit in the line between the D40x and the D80 in both price and features. While Nikon has declined to comment on pricing at the moment, we can get an idea of the price range the D60 will retail in be looking at the D40, D40x and D80. The Nikon D40 sells for $549.95 in kit form, the D40x sells for $699.95 in a kit and the D80 sells for $999.95 all with a kit 18-55mm lens. That would likely put the new D60 in the $800 price range.

The New D60 has a 10.2 megapixel DX-format CCD sensor and exclusive EXPEED image processor.

Review: This notebook is all business

My demo unit was running Windows Vista Business, which for some reason doesn't ship with the common Codecs needed to play DVDs. Only consumer editions of Vista do; I guess Microsoft figures business people don't need to play DVDs. I didn't discover this until onboard my transcon flight, which meant four hours reading the in-flight magazine instead of enjoying the hilarity that is Superbad. Once on the ground and on the Web, with some searching I was able to download the needed codecs from a third-party Web-site; Microsoft had wanted me to pay them for an upgrade instead

Woe is Vista

That's not my main Vista beef, however. That lies with their overzealous anti-piracy practices. When I first received the demo notebook I unpacked it, flipped it on and began the initial automated install.

Golf Gift Do's and Don'ts

Save the receipt, however, and don't take the shrink wrap off the clubhead. At some shops, doing so will instantly reduce the club's return value by 30%, even if it never strikes a ball. (Feel free to buy clubs for kids or beginners, though, since they haven't yet had time to build the full-scale equipment neuroses that avid golfers develop.)

Another generally safe golf-gift category is books, if only because they aren't wildly expensive and the recipient can easily store (or hide) a golf book on a bookshelf -- read or unread, you'll probably never know.

Golf books come in two categories: humongous and those actually meant to be read. The former, usually filled with lush photographs of exotic courses taken either 30 minutes before sunset or 30 minutes after sunrise, are essentially golf pornography.

Huawei's leading WiMAX solutions showcased in India

Bangalore: Huawei Technologies, a global provider of next generation telecommunications network solutions, exhibited its mobile WiMAX solutions in Mumbai and Delhi last month to India-based telecom operators. More than 500 senior executives from Huawei India's customer base from Reliance, Vodafone, Tata Indicom, Bharti Airtel, Aircel, BPL Mobile, Idea, BSNL, MTNL among others in Delhi and Mumbai visited Huawei's WiMAX exhibition vehicle (live service demo) specially brought from China.

Huawei's WiMAX exhibition vehicle started its global tour exhibition in November 2007, and India is the first destination. As a floating exhibition hall, visitors can see Huawei's WiMAX end-to-end products ranging from base station to ASN gateway, and experience abundant wireless broadband service.

Microsoft offers to buy Yahoo for $44.6 billion

Yahoo, in a statement, said its board will carefully evaluate Microsoft's proposal, which it described as unsolicited.

Microsoft expects the market for online advertising to almost double in size over the next three years, from $40 billion in 2007 to $80 billion by 2010. A merger will allow it to realize economies of scale and reduce capital costs as it addresses this market, it said.

“The combination of these two great teams would enable us to jointly deliver a broad range of new experiences to our customers that neither of us would have achieved on our own," said Ray Ozzie, chief software architect at Microsoft, in a statement.

Microsoft expects to cut costs by $1 billion a year by realizing synergies with Yahoo in four areas: obtaining economies of scale as its audience increases; combining its research and development efforts with Yahoo's to innovate faster; eliminating operational redundancy to cut costs, and pooling expertise to innovate in video and mobile.
